My heart is heavy.

I’ve sat with my thoughts for weeks, hoping it was all a bad nightmare but as the days go on things aren’t getting any better. 

I knew I wanted to be a historian since I was 11 years old. The moment I entered the gates at Dachau having no idea what I was walking into. At that point there was no mandated Holocaust education in 1996-97. I came out of there with so many questions and it put me on the path I find myself today.

It’s been almost thirty years of studying World War II, the Nazis, Germany, Nationalism…everything that goes with trying to understand what happened all those years ago. I used to wonder what it would be like to be one of the ones that saw the writing on the wall of what the future held but couldn’t do anything about it…and I find myself there just eighty years apart.

No matter if you believe it or not, what we have is a parallel like no other. In 2026 we are watching untrained Gestapolike government entities terrorize citizens and cities—murdering citizens and trying to cover it up in the name of domestic terrorism and now threats of going door to door to find all these dangerous criminals and rapists. Sound familiar? Hitler and the Nazis had the same platform except replace immigrant with Jew. 

Today the world watched as another citizen of this country was murdered…after being beaten. And yet the “administration” calls his murderers heroes. When does it end? What will it take? The only crime that man had was that he was recording the actions of the men who were terrorizing the streets of Minneapolis, and so he deserved to be murdered?

We are on the precipice of not being able to come back from this. The minute they start murdering citizens we’ve gone from being reminiscent of Nazi Germany to becoming everything the world fought so hard to defeat. We cannot let this be our reality. We cannot sit idly by, if we do, there will grave consequences.
